Woodstock General Hospital Animation
The new Woodstock General Hospital is the first of its kind to have been built twice: once in the virtual world and once in the real world. This was a groundbreaking project in the use of its emerging technology. In 2008, paul f. loreto architect inc, along with EllisDon, embarked upon a journey which was the first of its kind in Canada. That was to build the new hospital in the virtual world as it would be built in the real world. The reasoning behind this was to proactively flush out and resolve all potential problems that normally are undetected until the construction stage. If left unchecked, the problems resulting during construction from these undetected concerns would have a severe effect on the overall schedule and cost of the project.
The task was simple, the means of how to carry out the task was unprecedented. All elements in the building larger than 1 1/2 inches were to be constructed virtually to proactively find all concerns due to errors, conflicts, and oversights in the documentation process. As a result, issues that would have remained undetected in the real world were identified months ahead of the real world construction schedule and actions were put in place to resolve these issues thus no stoppage of schedule and no extra cost incurred.
